It didn’t surprise me when Kodak killed their black and white line of papers earlier in the year. It’s Kodak. They are quiet happy to kill the past to make some more money. I always thought that Polaroid would be different. But I just read this. And I am quite saddened.
To be honest I knew it would be coming. It was only a matter of time really. The last ten years in photography haven’t done Polaroid any favours. But I just bought a 5×4, sure I got it because I could shoot with my canon DSLR. But I really wanted to shoot some 5×4 Polaroid.
I still have my SX-70. I haven’t shot it for about 3 years. It’s the one that uses sonar to autofocus. Always wanted to use it on a dolphin.
There is something special about a camera that makes everything look like the 1970′s. Sure it’s still made. But that isn’t the real stuff that you’ll be putting in the camera. It’s the “good enough” version. The “shrinking bottom line” version. I knew the SX-70 before the lobotomy. I’ll miss him.
